WTF is up? Microsoft/Activision Merger vs. the FTC

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been in the news for the past month. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been trying to block the deal, but a federal judge has ruled that Microsoft can close its $69 billion deal to acquire video game giant Activision Blizzard. The FTC is appealing a federal court ruling last week in favor of the deal, though the appeals court declined to halt Microsoft’s merger while that is underway. Microsoft and Activision have jointly agreed to extend the merger agreement deadline from July 18, 2023, to October 18, 2023, to allow for additional time to resolve remaining regulatory concerns. The CMA (UK Regulators, final holdouts) said it is likely to be able to reach a new provisional view on the restructured deal in the week beginning Aug. 7.
